R. Deno Cole ’90: A Legacy of Leadership and Gratitude

For Deno Cole, Webb School has always represented a cornerstone of his personal and professional success. A proud member of the Class of 1990, Deno’s connection to Webb began in fifth grade when his parents enrolled him at the school. After moving away for several years, he returned to Knoxville to complete his junior and senior years at Webb—reconnecting with old friends and embracing the opportunities the school offered. His time at Webb was marked by close-knit friendships, academic rigor, and invaluable life lessons.
“Webb always stressed how to take a leadership role, set an example, and to give back,” Deno reflects. “The small class sizes and the individual care and attention from Webb teachers prepared me for college and law school in ways that have benefited me throughout my career.”
Deno, a practicing attorney since 1997, attributes much of his professional success to the discipline and structure he learned at Webb. To express his gratitude and to set an example for others, he made the thoughtful decision to include Webb School in his estate plan through a specific bequest in his last will and testament.
“It’s comforting to know that I can contribute to Webb’s future even after my lifetime,” Deno explains. “This hasn’t foreclosed me from making individual gifts in the meantime, but it feels meaningful to know I’ve secured this lasting impact.”
Deno’s gift underscores his belief in the importance of advancing Webb’s mission of shaping leaders and building a community of learners. He hopes his generosity will inspire others to consider how their own support can contribute to Webb’s future.
“Donations are the lifeblood of nonprofit organizations,” Deno shares. “Alumni who benefited from a Webb education should think about the impact their gifts can have on shaping future leaders.”
From his time on the varsity tennis team and in mock trial to his ongoing involvement as a Class of ’90 Representative, Deno has always been deeply connected to Webb. His estate gift ensures that this connection will continue for generations to come.
